Delhi: For The First Time In 8 Yrs, Pass Percentage For Class XI Students Touch 80%

For the first time since 2010, the pass percentage in Delhi government schools for Class XI has touched 80%. The annual examination was conducted by the exam branch of the Directorate of Education for all classes apart from X and XII in the Delhi government schools. The results for the same were declared on March 30.

How did the students fare?

The Delhi government announced the pass percentage and said that the Class XI result had seen an improvement from the 2017-2018 data which stood at 71%. “From 2015-16 onwards, the pass percentage in this class has been around 72 as opposed to 63 in 2014-15. This year, 2018-19, it touched 80 for the first time,” said the government. For class IX, the pass percentage remained the same. While 57.4% of students passed in 2017-18, the pass percentage for 2018-19 is 57.8%.

According to Hindustan Times, the Delhi government said, “There has been a slow but consistent improvement in the pass percentage over the last four years in this class due to programmes and initiatives like Chunauti and Mission Buniyaad which is strengthening the foundational learning skills of students by the time they reach Class 9.”

It said that the improved results show the government’s “commitments and focus on learning outcomes” for the new academic sessions. It also said that it plans to strengthen its teacher training program to speed up the learning of the last 30% to 40% of students who were left behind earlier.

Delhi’s education budget

With 26% of the budget allocated by the Delhi Government for education, this sector has been given the highest allocation for the fifth time in a row. “Yes, we are doing politics over education. It is our responsibility to bring education into politics and we want to do it,” Sisodia said while presenting the budget in the Assembly.

A sum of nine crores has been allocated to provide computer tablets to students who score above 80 per cent in government schools in class X, and also to students in RPVVs and schools of excellence in classes XI and XII.

“Apart from national and international level training, in the budget for 2019-20, Teachers Innovation Fund of ₹1 lakh to ₹1.5 lakh per school has been announced to encourage teachers to take up projects for learning improvement among children in their respective context,” the government said.
