[Video] Muslim Men Beaten By Mob In Court Premises For Wanting To Marry A Hindu Woman

Reportedly, members of a right-wing organisation assaulted a man in the premises of Ghaziabad court. A Muslim youth was beaten up as he was going to marry a Hindu woman. The assault was captured on video.

As reported by The Hindu, Police said that the Muslim youth from Bhopal met the girl, who hails from Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh, while working at the same company. When they approached their parents, they did not agree. So, they decided to get married in court. “The girl is a Rajput by caste and the man was Muslim. The couple wanted to register their marriage at Ghaziabad court as a friend told that it is safe and easy process there”, Police told The Hindu.

The couple arrived at the Ghaziabad court on July 23. While discussing the procedure with the advocate Manoj Kumar Teotia, a group of people barged into the chamber and attacked the Muslim man. The man was thrashed by the crowd until the Police came to his rescue. The couple was then taken to the Sihani Gate Police Station.

Advocate Teotia told The Telegraph, “There were around 20 men. Some of them were on bikes and the others (had come) on foot. One of them entered my office and asked the aspiring groom to come out. As soon as he did, he was mobbed and it was a free-for-all. I don’t think the couple or their companions had any clue about these people.”

As per reports, FIR against unknown people under IPC section 147 (rioting), 323 (causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) has been registered. Although there have been no arrests in this case yet. Police officer Sanjay Pandey was quoted by IANS, “We have registered an FIR against two men — Vinod and Navneet — and several unknown persons. No arrest has been made so far”, as reported by NDTV.

The Logical Indian take

It is not the first time an interfaith couple has been attacked. There have been numerous cases where caste and religion have acted as major barriers between people and families. Self-proclaimed saviours of culture often not only object but also try to suppress interfaith relationships. Firstly, it is very important to understand that in no way mob violence is ever justified. Secondly, if two consenting adults get into a relationship or decide to get married, it should not be anybody else’s business. It is important that the authorities take strict action against those accused and a strong message should be sent out that hooliganism and mob-violence will never be tolerated.
