There has been a steep rise in student deaths in Kota, Rajasthan that has made the administration to take immediate remedial measures to ensure student safety at hostels in Kota. Student’s come from various parts of the country to Kota for education related purposes, be it for exam related purposes or for college admissions. Kota is home to a large number of institutions and hence a large number of students flock the city.

Smart city is not safe enough
1.5 lakh students have come from outstation to stay and study at Kota or even for writing examinations. The increasing number of deaths among the students especially the ones who stay at the hostel has put the administration on alert mode. District collector Ravi Kumar has taken a number of measures to regulate hostels to ensure safety of students that includes

1. Biometric attendance system.
2. Employing security guards.
3. Reporting absence of students.
4. Informing parents of any significant change in a hosteller’s behaviour.

Given the fact that recently Kota was included in the list of smart city, in the backdrop of it, we request the government to take utmost care to outstation students who flock the ‘capital of exams’. Outstation students are more vulnerable to crimes, social unrest amongst others and hence we request the government to provide maximum security to them for the same.
