Madhya Pradesh: Woman Sentenced To Three Years In Jail For Falsely Accusing A Man Of Rape

Supported by

On May 23, a woman in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh got a three-year jail sentence and was asked to pay Rs 1000 fine for falsely accusing a man of rape. The court also rejected the woman’s request to award lesser punishment. The same was confirmed to The Logical Indian by Umesh Mishra, TI, Indarganj Police Station, Indarganj district, Gwalior.

As per reports, the woman said that she was taken to the factory by Mohan Singh and when everybody left, he went on to physically assault and rape her. Based on her statement, the police booked a case. However, when she was presented before the court, she deviated from her statement, after which the court arrived on the decision.

The reports suggest that the woman had lied before the court on previous occasions as well.

The Logical Indian take

Cases like these are extremely dangerous for the society. If the court had not found out about the foul play of the woman, the man would have been punished for no mistake of his own. More than the punishment, the loss in reputation would have been harder to bear. Because of false cases, the credibility of real crimes is lost. At a time even when actual cases of sexual assaults are seen through a lens of suspicion, this surely is a dangerous trend.
