YSR Congress MP from Andhra Pradesh Mithun Reddy was arrested at Chennai Airport for assaulting and threatening an Air India official . The arrest took place at early hours on Sunday morning and the MP has been sent to 14 days judicial remand.

The Alleged assault took place at Tirupati airport in November last year. The MP assaulted and slapped Air India Manager Rajasekhar when he refused to issued boarding pass to his relative saying they were late.

The 38 year old MP who represents Rajampet constituency in Kadapa district had On November 26 come to see off YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy at Renigunta airport where  he had the altercation with Mr Rajasekhar. Earlier the YSR Chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy had dismissed the accusations as false and politically motivated. However CCTV footage showed that the manager was pushed around and threatened by the parliamentarian and his supporters.

The medical report of the official says that Rajsekhara suffered fractures due to the assault and his injuries are “grievous”. In his complaint he had mentioned that the lawmaker shouted at him before slapping him.

The MP was arrested after immigration officials alerted the police based on a lookout notice that was issued against the lawmaker. The opposition party staged a sit-in on the Tirupati-Chennai highway to protest against the arrest. Mithun Reddy’s father and YSRCP legislator Peddireddy Ramchandra Reddy refuted the allegations made against his son and said that they were confident about getting justice in the court.

We are thankful to Air India official for registering an FIR against the MP because very few dare to and we also request our community members to take action, whenever they see atrocities around. Our politicians are our servent and they have forgotten that. It’s time we remind them.
