In a shocking story, an elderly woman in Madhya Pradesh was forced to stay in a toilet just outside of her residence. The incident was first reported by ANI. What is more shocking is the fact that she has been made to stay in the toilet for more than a year. According to the report, the 70-year-old lady was forced by her family members to stay in the lavatory over a personal issue. After the incident, the authorities had to send the matter to a Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM).
The woman hailing from Bareha village in Satna district was made to carry all her belongings and shift to a toilet. Unable to find any other support, the lady had to cook her own food inside the toilet.
Authorities stepped up
While speaking to the news agency she told that she is the mother of three sons and that she and her daughter-in-law always argued on various issues. “I was later thrown of the house. I have been living in the toilet for a year now. I cook for myself and sleep there,” she added. As of now, Amarpatan Tehsildar Mavendra Singh told the news agency that the matter has been undertaken by the SDM and that they are trying to find a home for now.
Quitting on parents and forcing them to stay outside their home is not something new particularly in this country. Stories of old parents being left in front of old age home are considered “acceptable” in society. In some cases, the parents are even left in the middle of the street, railway station, airport, and fair. In a similar incident, on September 19, 2018, a son and daughter-in-law left the mother, Rashmani Bhattacharya on road before going for a vacation. The 70-year-old hails from Barrackpore, West Bengal and used to stay with her youngest son, Ratan. Before leaving the town the couple took the mother out of their house and left her all by herself on the street with nothing but some packets of parched rice and clothes.
The Logical Indian Take
To quit on her parents is a shameful act. Parents struggle hard enough to provide us with a better future. They work hard so that we get things that we demand. They take care of us right from the time we are a little baby, giving up countless nights of their sleep. Proper education, a shelter to stay, and adequate food for us. They work throughout their lives just to satisfy all our needs. We ask our readers to value their parents and report to authorities if and when they come across someone who abandons their parents.
