Punjab MLAs & Gujarat Lawmakers Decide To Donate A Month's Salary To Pulwama Martyrs' Families

In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Pulwama which claimed the lives of as many as 40 in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of as many as 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans, emotions have taken over people from across the globe. Several people, famous or not, are coming forward to help the families and relatives of the martyred soldiers.


Punjab lawmakers decide to donate to martyrs’ families

On Monday, February 18, state lawmakers of Punjab decided to donate to the next of kin of the martyred CPRF soldiers one month’s salary each. Unanimously adopting a resolution moved by Congress MLA Parminder Singh Pinki, the Punjab Assembly in Chandigarh decided to donate and help the soldiers’ families, reported India Today.

Days after the Pulwama attack, two terrorists were killed in an encounter, including the mastermind behind the Pulwama attack. Four army men, an officer among them, were also martyred in the encounter. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s High Commissioner Sohail Mahmood was called back by Pakistan for consultations.

Again, back in Punjab, Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu’s “utterances” in the Pulwama attack’s aftermath called for his dismissal by the Opposition Shiromani Akali Dal, even as barbs were exchanged in the house by Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia and the cricketer-turned-politician.

Photographs of Sidhu were burned outside the House before the beginning of the Punjab Budget Session, by Akali leaders led by Majithia.


Gujarat lawmakers to donate salaries to Pulwama martyrs’ families

NDTV reported that Gujarat legislators too, cutting across party lines, have decided to donate to the families of the CPRF martyrs a month of salaries.

According to sources, during a legislature party meeting, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs had initially decided to donate Rs 51,000 but decided to follow suit when they got to know that the Congress legislators have decided to send their salaries of a month.

Last year, during the monsoon session, the monthly salaries of Gujarat MLAs were hiked to Rs 1,16,316 from Rs 70,727. The salaries of the ministers were hiked to Rs 1.32 lakh a month from Rs 87,000.


Government Of Sikkim announces compensation

While strongly condemning the Pulwama terror attack, Sikkim Chief Minister Shri Pawan Chamling has decided to give Rs 3 lakh as compensation to each of the martyred soldier’s family. He has also offered sponsorship of education of their children. Terming it as an act of cowardice, Shri Chamling has extended deepest sympathies to the bereaved families.

The ordeal that the families of the martyred CPRF jawans are going through is unimaginable. In such a situation, any help and support being extended to them are worthy of being appreciated. The Logical Indian appreciates all the people who have come forward to help these families.
