Tamil Nadu Man Thrashed For Posting Photo Of Himself Consuming Beef, 4 Arrested

A Muslim man in Tamil Nadu was beaten up by a group of people for posting a photo of himself consuming beef on Facebook on July 11. As of now, police have arrested four people.

Mohamed Faizan, 24, who happens to be a resident of Perumal Koil street in Keevaloor, Nagapattinam, posted the picture captioned – “You can say a thousand things, but beef curry is beef curry”.

The family of the victim has accused members of the right-wing group Hindu Makkal Katchi, responsible behind the attack on Faizan.

Soon after the news of the attack spread, a large no. people on social media came out in support of Faizan, posting pictures of beef dishes and in no time, #WeLoveBeef, #BeefForLife, #Beef4Life became the top trends.


Details Of The Incident

The incident occurred at Poravachery village in the vicinity of the Kilvelur police station around 7 P.M. on Thursday.

After seeing the post, about 20 people went to Faizan’s house and started questioning him regarding the same. Reportedly, he was thrashed and even attacked with a knife. Faizan was later rushed to a government hospital.

The Police have detained N. Dinesh Kumar (28), R. Agathian (29) A. Ganesh Kumar (27) and M. Mohankumar (28). Police have registered cases under various sections of IPC – 153(A), 307, 506(ii), 324, 294 (b).

Dinesh Kumar, the primary accused, according to the police sources is a member of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam and is also a local office-bearer of the party.


Faizan’s Word

“I went to Chennai to meet my relatives where I had beef soup. I posted the picture after I returned home,” Faizan said.

Faizan’s post was shared by the people living in his locality.

“Five hours later, I was attacked by a group of people. They thrashed me and asked if I would ever consume beef again,” he added.

People around him saved him from the outrageous mob.


“Cow Is Our God”

Hindu Munnani group’s member Chezhiyan, said that several people from Faizan’s locality have been uploading such pictures of beef and they are unacceptable, reported News18. Cow is our God. Despite that, many from Faizan’s locality have been sharing posts on beef,”

He added that they had filed a number of complaints against another guy who kept on posting similar kind of posts but no actions were taken.
