Bihar Man Posts Obscene Tweet On Priyanka Gandhi; Arrested Based On Kuwait Activist's Email Complaint

Just last month only Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined active politics ahead of general elections, and in such a brief time she has managed to receive vitriolic attacks and abusive comments from trolls. On February 3, the Bihar police arrested one person who had posted an obscene tweet with a morphed picture of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Twitter.

According to the NDTV, Yogi Sanjay Nath, a resident of Bihar, who calls himself Bhakt(devotee) of Prime Minister Modi on his Twitter profile posted an obscene morphed image of Priyanka Gandhi. The accused might have thought that he would get away with it but was soon arrested from his residence in Binodpur locality by the Bihar Police.

District BJP president says he is not part of the party

While Sanjay Nath calls himself Modi Bhakt and an ardent follower of BJP’s Mission 2019’, BJP’s district president Manoj Rai claimed that this person has no association with the party, reported The Indian Express.

Town police station SHO Ranjan Kumar while talking about the incident told the media that Sanjay Nath was arrested after the police got an emailed complaint. He said that on January 30, a social activist Shaheen Sayyed emailed them about the morphed image of Priyanka Gandhi.

He added that after the complaint was raised, the cyber cell traced Sanjay Nath’s location to Katihar area. After taking him into the custody, an FIR has also been registered against him, said the SHO.

Sayyed had written an email to Economic Offence Unit (EoU), in which she had also shared details of Sanjay Nath’s Twitter account. While speaking to The Logical Indian, the Kuwait based social activist, Shaheen Sayyed said, “I am deeply saddened to see this vulgar statement with indecent image destroying the dignity of a woman on a social platform openly. She added, “I will always stand to take the issues of woman dignity and human rights.”

Response by Congress

Post this incident the Mahila Congress wing decided to take action. On January 3, Monday, the president of All-India Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev, said the woman’s wing will also file a police complaint in all state capitals against the smear campaign.

This is not the first attack on Priyanka Gandhi since she has been appointed as General Secretary for east Uttar Pradesh of the Congress party. Previously, Vinod Narain Jha, BJP minister in Bihar, stoked a controversy by saying Gandhi was just a pretty face, and beauty doesn’t help in getting votes. However, the minister later blamed media for distorting his statement, reported News Bytes.

The Logical Indian Take

Social media is a powerful tool and we all should use it for the greater good. Tweeting/posting misogynist comments and posts just because of political differences landed Yogi Sanjay Nath in jail. He might have thought that he will get away but this time law has worked and he is in jail. The Logical Indian community urges everyone to not be abusive just to prove allegiance to the party you like.
