Haryana Suffered A Loss Of Over Rs.126 Crore In The Violence That Erupted During Ram Rahim's Conviction

Haryana suffered a loss of more than Rs. 126 crore in the violence that had erupted after Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted of rape on August 25, 2017, by a CBI court in Panchkula.

This was revealed in a PIL filed by Ravinder Singh Dhull n the Haryana Court. On the basis of the petition, Haryana government has issued various directions to the Punjab and Haryana government regarding maintenance of law and order.


Which places suffered the losses?

The total gist of losses incurred in all the districts of Haryana is Rs 1,26,68,71,700. Ambala suffered the maximum loss of Rs 46.84 crore among violence-hit districts. Fatehabad came in second with Rs 14.87 crore losses because of revenue loss and money spent on resources which were used to bring the situation under control.

Although there was no property damage in Fatehabad, it still comes second in losses incurred because of other reasons. Sirsa, which houses the Dera headquarters, suffered Rs 13.57 crore loss. Panchkula, the place where the violence erupted, suffered losses worth Rs 10.57 crore. In Panchkula, 36 people also lost their lives due to police firings.

Speaking to The Logical Indian, Ravinder Singh Dhull, who filed the RTI said, “Its a matter wherein blatant misuse of law has been done at the behest of status. This is why I filed the PIL then the High Court started monitoring. Everything including the Dera search was done by court order after I filed the PIL”
