Just A Single Toothbrush For 49 Children: Sorry State Of Govt. Run Homes For Differently Abled

Often, the less fortunate people in the country barely get any real help or dignity from the authority. Such is the saddened state of people in the government run homes. In a recent report by TOI, 49 children were using just a single toothbrush and a toothpaste in a government aided home for the disabled. The Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Justice H L Dattu has revealed such a pitiful piece of information as he himself witnessed such sad conditions at various old-age homes and government run facilities.

Justice Dattu told Times of India, “It is not important to say in which state I saw 49 children using one toothbrush as that is the condition in most government-aided or government-run homes housing disabled children, who are the most neglected lot.”

He also described how the elderlies are suffering in old-age homes. In spite of belonging from well-to-do families, many send their aged parents to such homes. Justice Dattu mentioned the need for counsellors in these homes to talk to the elderlies and give them moral boost.

He informed that there is no dearth of funds for the homes meant for elderlies and disabled.

The former Chief Justice of India, HL Dattu is trying to create better opportunities for people since he has taken the role the NHRC Chairperson. He has appointed rapporteurs across states to visit homes for the senior citizens and disabled children and give reports on the basic facilities available there.

The Logical Indian hopes Justice Dattu will be able take proper steps to improve the state of the government run homes in the country and provide better facilities for those who are compelled to stay there.
