In a horrific act of blind faith, a man residing in Rajasthan’s Pipad City in Jodhpur district has been arrested by the police for killing his 4-year old daughter as a ‘holy sacrifice’ to ‘Allah’ during the month of Ramzan.

Rizwana, Nawab Ali Qureshi’s eldest daughter was found dead with her throat slit on Friday morning, the Superintendent of Police (Jodhpur Rural) Ranjan Dushyant informed.

What happened

Qureshi had brought Rizwana back from her Grandparent’s house on Thursday. He then took her to the market to buy her sweets and fruits. Later that night, he woke her up, took her to the veranda, made her sit on his lap, and he read a kalma (prayer), before slitting her throat. In his confession he mentioned that at this point “Satan came over him”, forcing him to do the deed. He went back to sleep after this.

The family and Rizwana used to sleep on the roof of their house. At 3 am, Shabana, Rizwana’s mother stepped out to find her in a pool of blood. She then took her to the Government Hospital where she was pronounced dead. They registered a complaint with Jodhpur Rural Police. Afterward, when the police interrogated Qureshi, he confessed to the crime stating, he wished to seek Allah’s blessings.

The Hindustan Times reported that the police quoted the accused as saying, “I am a Namazi and I love my child more than my own life. I offered my daughter as a sacrifice.”

The Logical Indian Take

A horrific and barbaric act was committed by a father to please his god. A 4-Yr-Old was killed to death by his father. This is not an isolated incident as one might think. Acts of violence in the name of faith, or because of superstitions is being done every day and we need to work towards a society where we have a scientific temper.

The Logical Indian requests to shun or be careful about rituals which could hurt yourself or others. There is so much ignorance still in our society, and it is the responsibility of both, the citizens and the government to spread awareness.
