Amid tensions over the rape of a 7-year-old in Jaipur, mobile internet services were suspended across 13 police station areas of the city from 2 pm on July 2 to 10 am on July 3, and the security was tightened to avoid any turmoil.

Violent Protests Across The City

On July 1, the young girl was abducted and raped in Shastri Nagar, Jaipur. The family of the victim filed a complaint on the same day.

The girl was found near her house on the night of July 1 and was immediately taken to a local hospital where the doctors shifted her to JK Lone Hospital and described her condition as ‘stable’.

Multiple protests erupted after the shocking incident and the Police arrested 16 people in connection with the protest.

“Some people had gathered in the area to protest. When the police tried to disperse the crowd, they started pelting stones. Some vehicles were damaged, and a few police officers were also injured. We have registered a case and arrested 16 people,” said Jaipur Police Commissioner Anand Srivastava to ANI.

“The culprit lured the girl from near her house into a vehicle around 8 pm on Monday and raped her. After two hours, he dropped her at the same spot where she was picked up. A medical checkup was conducted and a case registered. Several teams were working to nab the officer,” he added.

Mobile internet companies were ordered by Jaipur divisional commissioner to suspend internet in Ramganj, Galta Gate, Manak Chowk, Subhas Chowk, Brahmpuri, Nahargarh, Kotwali, Sanjay Circle, Shastri Nagar, Bhatta Basti, Lal Kothi, Adarsh Nagar and Sadar police stations.

Govt’s Action

After the incident, a large number of people assembled outside Kanwatia Hospital where the girl is being treated. State Transport Minister Pratap Singh Khachariawas also visited the victim at the hospital.

“This is a heinous crime. The culprit should be hanged. Police are making all efforts to nab the accused,” Additional Director General of Police, Janga Srinivas Rao, told PTI.

The Rajasthan Government has paid a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the victim. They also assured the family of proper action in the matter.
