A 22-year-old man in Mumbai was allegedly raped by four people who tracked him through his post on a popular photo-sharing site – Instagram. The perpetrators saw his post, where the location was also mentioned.

On December 8, the man, who lives in the central suburbs of Mumbai, posted a selfie outside a restaurant in the city and posted it on the social media platform.

Four men reached the restaurants and approached the survivor, telling him that they followed him on the social media platform and were his huge “fans”.

Later the four men asked him to accompany them for a bike ride. The victim agreed, and the five people rode for around 20 minutes, reaching a hotel near the Mumbai airport.

The men then forced the survivor into a car and drove away to an isolated area. The men gang-raped him in the moving car. The culprits also used the survivor’s credit card to refill fuel in the card and also withdrew some cash.

Later the survivor was dumped on the road early Monday morning. The 22-year-old informed his parents and then approached the cops. The cops arrested all four men on the same day.

Of the four culprits, one is a minor. The three adults were produced in a court and sent to police custody while the minor boy was sent to a child remand home. The Mumbai Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 377 (unnatural sex) of the Indian Penal Code and has arrested all the four suspects.

Senior police officer Madhuri Pokle of the VB Nagar Police station where the FIR was registered said that they are waiting for reports from the hospital.
