Amidst all the tension between India and Pakistan, it is very pleasing to learn that humanity is not completely lost. This was showcased by a heart-warming gesture of the Indian army towards a little boy from across the border.

On Wednesday, the Indian army handed over an 11-year-old Pakistani boy to the Pakistani authorities, four days after he accidentally crossed the LoC, into the Indian-occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

Not just that, Abdullah was presented with a box of sweets and a set of new clothes by the Indian army before he returned to Pakistan.

According to a report by India Today, the boy, Mohammad Abdullah, was detained by the Indian army on June 24 in Degwar area of Poonch district and was handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir police. The Police immediately began making arrangements for his return.

A defence spokesperson said that the boy was released on humanitarian grounds because he is so young and also to boost the ‘confidence-building measures’ between India and Pakistan.

“The Indian Army stands by its ethos of being a humane force and maintains sensitivity while dealing with innocent civilians,” the spokesperson added.
