According to a report by the NDTV, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh availed VIP treatment for his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Singh at a government-run hospital at the cost of other patients. Aishwarya Singh was expecting a baby, and she was admitted to Raipur’s Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital. An entire floor was vacated to make space for kin of CM Raman Singh.
CM Raman Singh’s party, BJP argues that it is an honour for the hospital that the CM’s kin chose the government hospital instead of an expensive private hospital.
CM Raman Singh’s kin availing VIP treatment
CM Raman Singh’s son Abhishek Singh is a parliamentarian from Rajnandgaon who admitted his wife to Ambedkar hospital on Friday evening. The entire second floor of the hospital was vacated for the use of the CM’s kin. The expecting mother was given a separate room whereas three other rooms were turned into security centres, only to be occupied by nearly 50 police personnel.
Nearly 1,200 patients were admitted to the hospital at that time. A section of them who were admitted on the second floor were shifted to the first floor. The labour ward soon turned overcrowded and even two women had to share the same bed. Some doctors who were recovering from food poisoning who were housed at the second floor, even they also had to be moved.
One of the patients said, “We were admitted here on Friday and got only one bed. Sharing a bed is difficult. We told them but nobody listened to us. They told us that you will have to manage.” Dr Vivek Chaudhury, the hospital superintendent, said, “There is a lack of space and there is new construction going on. There is a problem in the delivery ward, we have arranged 30 more.”He also admitted the fact that the hospital was already overcrowded.
Criticism by the Opposition
Chhattisgarh’s CM, Raman Singh visited his newly born grand-daughter on Saturday. The opposition, however, has alleged that preferential treatment was given to CM Raman Singh’s daughter-in-law. State Congress spokesperson Vikash Tiwari said, “We welcome the new member in his family, but the CM’s daughter-in-law got VIP treatment. The entire hospital was turned into a cantonment. Two pregnant women are being forced share one bed. This is a shameful and apathetic treatment for those who have elected these leaders into power.”
Earlier in August, four children had died in the same Hospital, due to the inadequate supply of oxygen. The attendant Ravi Chandra passed out as he was drunk on duty and the oxygen supply stopped for around 30 minutes.
The Logical Indian Take
The Chhattisgarh CM’s family choosing a government hospital for delivery was a subject for discussion in the social media wherein people hailed it saying that it will help repose people faith in a government hospital. But vacating an entire floor to ensure VIP treatment for his kin points out at the blatant partiality. Patients were shifted to other levels, and two pregnant mothers were crammed into one bed. This treatment was meted out to the common mass who have elected the CM to power.
The Logical Indian community condemns the partiality in the treatment meted out to the kith of CM and the inconvenience caused to patients due to it. It urges the concerned authority to look into the matter.
