The Various Ways You Can Help Kerala Flood Victims

Kerala has been reeling under severe flood for the last one week with 79 official deaths recorded. The incessant rain has capsized the boat of two fishermen, flooded houses of many, leading to an indefinite powercut. Many other people are injured or missing as rescue operations are underway by the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and military team. There are around 35,000 people who have been evacuated and placed in 200 relief camps.

In such a situation, described as ‘very grim’ by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, rescue operations and relief efforts are going on. Like the rain, help is also pouring in from all sides. Last week, Vishnu, a blanket seller from Madhya Pradesh donated 50 blankets to the victims. There are various other ways to help out the victims.

The Central government has allocated Rs 100 crore for relief purposes, but that is not enough given the severity of the issue. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has started a distress relief fund. Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund is an emergency assistance release mechanism granting immediate relief to families and individuals distressed by calamity, loss of life due to accidents and chronic diseases. The state has invited donations to this fund, which will help the victims. The contributions can be made here. The process is simple.

In Kannur, the Collector has asked for donations of essential items other than monetary help. Essential items he asked for are cooking utensils and dining utensils like plates, tumblers and basic household furniture, containers, footwear, mugs, buckets etc. All this can be sent to Control Room, Collectorate, Kannur – 670002, Phone no. 9446682300, 04972700645

Leaving all rivalries aside, the Bengaluru Football Club is also trying its best to help Kerala. On a Facebook post, they have urged people to donate basic necessities like soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, first aid kits, and packaged goods in their stadium. They will make sure that these supplies reach Kerala and help the victims.
