An inhuman practice against women
In a remote hamlet of southern Rajasthan’s Bhilwara, an inhuman practice exists in the name of banishing evil spirits in women. Hundreds of women from nearby villages are brought to Bankaya Mata temple in Bhilwara and subjected to practices that not only degrades women but that are also dangerous. As part of exorcism, the bhopas i.e self-proclaimed healers and priests at the Bankaya Mata temple put women through multiple rituals which would qualify as atrocities outside.
Made to carry shoes in their mouths
Women are made to carry shoes on their heads, in their mouths and even being made to drink water from them depending on the prescription by the bhopas. That’s not all, more atrocities are witnessed there, as women are made to drag themselves down over 200 steps in the temple, to rid themselves of the ‘possessed’ evil spirits. The reason why woman go through this is because of the fact that women brought to the temple either suffer from mental illnesses, but sometimes they are dragged by families who want them tagged ‘insane’. The women are often young and these rituals take a toll on them. Some experts believe such rituals could put these young women at a higher risk of permanent or long-term emotional damage.
The Logical Indian is shocked at the occurrence and existence of these incidents in modern India. We request the authorities to book the family members and the perpetrators of such acts under relevant sections of the penal code.
