Haryana: Groom’s Brother Accidentally Kills Him In Celebratory Gunshot

In a tragic incident on Saturday, a 36-year-old groom died in the celebratory fire of his marriage in Haryana’s Kaithal town. The deceased has been identified as Vikram Vohra, a non-resident Indian (NRI) who came to India for his marriage last week. Reportedly he died when he was dancing in his sangeet function (jaago) and a shot fired from a gun accidentally hit him.

Vohra was rushed to a private hospital in Patiala but he succumbed to his injury. His relative, Navteej Singh, also sustained bullet injury but is now out of danger.

Astha Modi, superintendent of police Katihal while talking to The Logical Indian said, “It’s a case of celebratory firing during a pre-wedding function. Surender, groom’s brother is the holder of .312 bore gun and has a license of it. People including the groom were dancing but mistakenly the groom’s brother pressed the trigger which hit the groom and another attendee of the function. The bullet entered and came out of the abdomen of the groom while the other person is out of danger”.

“A case has been registered and the investigation is on. As the case is sensitive, we are trying to get evidence on records such as a video footage and photos, and once we get those, we will proceed with the arrest,” she added.

Satprakash Singh, SHO of Guhla police station said that an FIR has been registered and Surender is booked in section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and section 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 27 of the Arms Act.

The police are yet to confirm the residence of the deceased.
