With the new notification, the rates of popular food items like chicken biryani, egg biryani, noodles, medu vada, masala dosa, rice, and soups have reduced with the new notification. But prices of food items like coffee, tea, Janata meal, standard breakfast, would be remained unchanged since they do not come under the ambit of GST.

The decision came after the finance ministry’s notification that the GST applicable on food and drinks served on trains and railway stations by IRCTC or Indian Railways would be slashed down to 5%. Earlier it was 18%. A letter was also issued to the Railway board in this regard. This 5% GST will also be applicable in other premium trains such as Tejas Express, Gatimaan Express, and Shivalik Express.
