“Mere bhai Kashif Jameel ko aaj bullet shot se 3 fire kr murder karne ka try kiya gaya.. Woh Star hospital mai hai. I always said they would try to kill us,” (My brother was shot at today with 3 bullets. He is in Star Hospital. I always said they are going to kill us) Dr Kafeel Khan, who was in jail for eight months as one of the accused of the Gorakhpur tragedy that took 63 children’s lives, said on a WhatsApp message to us on Monday. Dr Kafeel Khan’s younger brother, Kashif Jameel was shot at by two bikers late on Sunday evening.

Kafeel Khan knew that it was not only his life and but also his career and family are under threat. In a letter that Kafeel Khan wrote while he was in prison, he said that his family was in danger.

Eid shopping turned bloody

“He went out on his bike for Eid shopping. How could we expect something like this would happen?” told Adeel Khan, eldest brother of Dr. Kafeel Khan. They are four brothers. Dr. Kafeel being the second eldest. He said that the incident happened 500 meters from where the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was present.

34-year-old Kashif was out alone. At around 10:30 on Sunday night, near a temple in the Gorakhnath area, two men in a brown Scooty fired shots at his direction. Three of the five shots hit him, one in the neck, one each on shoulder and arm. The culprits had a cloth covering their faces.

“I don’t know even after sustaining such injuries, the police made us wait for more than 3 hours to get proper medical attention. We were taken to two different hospitals where the surgery to remove the bullets were not performed even though doctors were ready. Why are things like this happening with our family?” told Adeel Khan to The Logical Indian.

When The Logical Indian contacted the local police, they said that they had some procedures to follow and hence there was a delay of three hours. They said that investigation is on and they are on a lookout for the culprits.

Dr. Kafeel posted a video on twitter explaining the situation.

The Logical Indian Take

The degrading law and order situation of Uttar Pradesh needs to be worked on. Uttar Pradesh Police needs to see that such incidents don’t happen and culprits are caught as soon as police. We hope those behind it are prosecuted and justice is served.
