[Video] MP: Dalit Man Beaten Up By Village Sarpanch For Riding Bike In Front Of His House, Casteist Abuses Hurled

A 30-year-old Dalit man was allegedly beaten by the village sarpanch in Tikamgarh district in Madhya Pradesh for riding in front of their house. Dayaram Ahirwar in his complaint has accused that the village sarpanch Hemant Kurmi, his brothers and a neighbour roughed him up on June 21. The video showing the victim being abused and beaten up went viral two days after the incident occurred.

As per PTI reports, Deri police post’s assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ramsevak Jha said that the accused objected Ahirwar riding a motorcycle in front of their house. The accused also told him that Ahirwar should have dragged his vehicle instead of riding.

The victim has also alleged that the sarpanch and his cronies hurled casteist remarks and abuses while beating him. “I was going to the market and passed by sarpanch Hemant Kurmi’s house. While returning, his men stopped me and started beating me. They hurled casteist abuses and threatened to kill me if I rode past his house on a motorcycle again,” said Ahirwar, as reported by ANI.

After beating the victim, the sarpanch reportedly warned him not to repeat his action in future.

The police have arrested Hemant Kurmi, his brothers Vinod Kurmi, Munnu Kurmi and Aniruddh Kurmi, and their neighbour Dinesh Yadav.

They have been booked under Schedule Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Indian Penal Code sections 341, 342 (wrongful confinement), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (abuse in public) and 506 (criminal intimidation), ASI Jha said.

Last week too, a 13-year-old Dalit was beaten up by four Rajput youths for wearing Mojdi ( Rajwadi shoe worn by Rajput men), a fake gold chain and according to his attackers, “posing” as a member of the upper-caste Darbar in Becharaji town of Mehsana district, Gujarat. One of the attackers recorded the video of the atrocity and circulated on social media.

On June 17, three minor Dalit boys were stripped, beaten and paraded naked in a village in Jalgaon for allegedly swimming in a village well, officials said here on Thursday.
