Police in Jammu & Kashmir Comes Up With Over 150 Facebook Pages To Counter Surge In Militancy In The State

Social media outreach in Jammu & Kashmir has helped the force to counter the propaganda of the insurgent and subversive forces to improve the security situation the state, the Director General of J&K Police, SP Vaid said.


Course of Event

SP Vaid addressed the passing-out-cum-attestation-parade of 911 recruits at the subsidiary training center in Talwara. He said as quoted by Times of India, “Social Media was misused to a large extent in 2016 to mislead the public and we managed to counter it to a large extent. Our effort to bring into a positive narrative helped in improving the situation to a large extent.”

Vaid also said that the police department has set up media cells in all district headquarters. 26 Facebook pages has been opened at district police level, 189 Facebook pages at police station level, 31 twitter handles, 5 Facebook pages at police range levels and 2 Facebook pages at the zonal level. According to him, this effort was to regain peace and normalcy for the state. He asked the recruits to give their 100% to the people they serve.

He also gave a list of various welfare measures for the policemen by the said department and the government following which he added that they are well aware of the problems and issues faced by the police. A considerable amount of work and steps are being taken to ensure better living and working atmosphere for the policemen.

Procurement of necessary vehicles and safety gadgets has also been established to protect the policemen performing duties on road. Also, he asked them to handle complaints by the civilians with warmth and patience while sternly dealing with the offenders.

While addressing the 911 recruits he also drew special attention to the fight against drug abuse. He informed that 34 drug peddlers and criminals have been booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Apart from this, a number of youth engagement programs have also been organized to channelize the energies of young people.

The DGP also said that close to one thousand seven hundred and four police community partnership group (PCPG) meetings were held last year to listen and yield to all problems faced by the youth. J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was present at the event. She inspected the parade and took salute at the march past.

All the 715 constables selected through a Transparent Recruitment Process (TRP) who hailed from different parts of Kashmir division passed out after the completion of their basic training that had commenced in November 2016. Principal of the Subsidiary training Center, Anil Kumar Katoch briefed about the training given to the recruits including the special classes taken on Human Rights and crime against women.


Awards And Achievements

Constable Altaf Hussain Malik was declared all round best trainee and was granted promotion decorated with selection grade constable rank on the spot by the DGP and the Chief Minister.

Constable Tanveer Ahmad Mairaj-U-Din were declared 2nd and 3rd all-around best and were duly awarded with commendation certificate along with cash rewards of Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,500 respectively.
