Hate Mongers Spread Rumours Of Communal Hatred During Ganesh Puja On Social Media, Mumbai Police Cracks The Whip

As Mumbai people were busy celebrating Ganesha Puja, hate-mongers took on twitter to spread communal hatred. One of the twitter handle @iAnkurSingh posted link of an online platform hindi.revoltpress.com saying that 500 Muslims attacked a Ganesh Pandal in Mumbai and disfigured the Ganpati idols. It was retweeted more than hundred time.

Few twitter handles including that of Sanjay Nirupam reported it to Mumbai Police asking if it was true and Mumbai police swiftly responded that it isn’t and they have registered an offence for spreading communal hatred and rumour mongering on social media.

The Punishment for spreading communal hatred and for rumour mongering
According to Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code, whoever organizes any exercise, movement, drill or other similar activity intending that the participants in such activity shall use or be trained to use criminal force or violence or knowing it to be likely that the participants in such activity will use or be trained to use criminal force or violence, or participates in such activity intending to use or be trained to use criminal force or violence or knowing it to be likely that the participants in such activity will use or be trained to use criminal force or violence, against any religious, racial, language or regional group or caste or community and such activity for any reason whatsoever causes or is likely to cause fear or alarm or a feeling of insecurity amongst members of such religious, racial, language or regional group or caste or community, shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.

The Logical Indian community applauds Mumbai police for their swift action and alertness, they did a commendable job and stopped the rumor before it could harm anyone. At the same time, steps like these act as a detterant against those who use social media for spreading communal hatred.
