A review of mummies, fossils, and classical literature has found that cancer tumors were rarely reported before the issues of pollution and poor diet became a major concern among people.
A visiting professor at Manchester University, Micheal Zimmerman, found that malignancies were virtually absent in mummies, that indicate factors causing cancer are limited to societies hit by modern civilization.
After conducting research on tissues from hundreds of mummies, only one case of cancer was confirmed. Even the study of thousands of Neanderthal bones has provided only one example of possible cancer, reported Daily Mail.
It was only in the 17th century, the first description of cancer operations was found. Scientific literature reveals, distinctive tumours like scrotal cancer occurred among chimney sweeps in 1775 and nasal cancer among snuff users in 1761.
