Bulandshahr Violence: BJP, VHP & Bajrang Dal Leaders Including Yogesh Raj Chargesheeted

On March 2, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Uttar Pradesh police filed a chargesheet against 38 people in the local court in relation with the mob violence in Bulandshahr which also killed a police inspector and a youth. Of the 38 charged, five have been charged with the murder of Subodh Kumar Singh, the slain inspector.

The court was to take the cognisance of the chargesheet on Today. Among the 38 named, the list also includes Bajrang Dal leader Yogesh Raj, BJP leader Shikhar Agarwal and VHP leader Upendra Raghav for inciting violence and arson, reported Hindustan Times.


38 people chargesheeted

Against the 38 accused, the SIT submitted a 3,400-page case diary and a 103-page charge sheet. Five men-Prashant Natt, Rahul, David, Johny and Lokendra have been held guilty of killing inspector Subodh Singh, as per Bulandshahr Superintendent of Police (SP) Atul Kumar Srivastava.

The other 33 have been charged with attempt to murder, inciting violence, arson, damaging public property etc. These 33 include Yogesh Raj, Shikar Agarwal, Upendra Raghav and an army man named Jeetu.

The police had earlier registered a case against 88 people. In the chargesheet 25 of the 88 have been named, as reported by India Today. After the incident of mob violence, the UP government transferred Krishna Bahadur Singh, the Bulandshahr Senior Superintendent of Police. He was then attached him to the office to the Director General of Police in connection with the mob violence.


What happened

On December 3, the incident took place when a few people started to protest in the area after they found the alleged carcass of a cow in the field, said the District Magistrate to The Indian Express. Allegedly, the mob was also protesting against illegal slaughterhouses. The protestors had blocked the roads in the area. Following this, the police were informed about the incident. When the police reached the spot to get the roads opened, some unknown people started pelting stones at the at the police. Subodh Kumar Singh, a police inspector from Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh and a youth were killed in clashes that broke out in Shyana area over alleged cow slaughter.

According to The Indian Express, the inspector, Subodh was again attacked while he was being taken to the hospital. The inspector died before he could have been treated.
