A BJP leader in Haryana has been accused of causing a delay for an ambulance that was taking a man to the hospital, thus leading to his death, according to media reports.

It is alleged that Darshan Nagpal gave a chase to the ambulance and created a ruckus after it hit his car at a traffic intersection in Fatehabad, leading to a delay in the 42-year-old patient Naveen Soni’s treatment and eventual death.

It is reported that the ambulance was stopped for half an hour as Nagpal blocked its way and refused to let it pass. He also allegedly argued with the driver and the patient’s family. By the time the ambulance reached the hospital, Soni was dead.

“Pradhan tailed our car and stopped our ambulance, demanding compensation for damages,” said Sitaram Soni, the patient’s older brother, reported NDTV. “The doctor told us if only you had come 15 minutes earlier, we could have saved him,” he added.

The BJP leader, however, has denied the allegation and said that he did not stall the ambulance and let it go.

“There is no question of stopping the ambulance, ask anyone present there. I believe in service how can I stop an ambulance,” Pradhan said, reported NDTV. He claimed to had been told by his driver that the “ambulance was unoccupied and the driver was drunk”.

Fatehabad’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ravinder Tomar, told The Logical Indian that the patient’s family has filed a complaint against the BJP leader and the investigation is ongoing.

The Logical Indian hopes that probe into the matter is carried out at the earliest and the one responsible for the death of the patient is brought to justice.
