Supporters of Meerut BJP Councillor, who was arrested for assaulting a policeman and a lady advocate, celebrated his release from the jail by opening fire from a moving SUV in a busy Meerut road.

They even uploaded the video and photographs of the firing on social media. An FIR has been filed against Vinay Chaudhary, the person who was firing, under the IT act and Meerut SP city has said the cyber cell is carrying out further investigations.

What was the case

BJP Councillor Manish Chaudhary was caught on camera brutally assaulting a UP sub-inspector who was with a lady advocate in a restaurant. The video of the incident went viral and he was arrested on October 20 based on a complaint filed by the lady lawyer. The incident took place in Black Paper restaurant, Kankar Khera, Meerut

On November 2, he was released on bail after he spent almost two weeks in jail. The police said the argument started over delay on food being on time and when it arrived she allegedly went on to throw it.

The lady lawyer was booked on October 24 by UP police on charges of drunken driving and hitting four vehicles. She alleged that UP Police is working on the behest of the BJP councillor and alleged that it was councillor’s men who hit the car.

As per The Indian Express, the BJP councillor, soon after being released said, “I have full faith in the judiciary and will continue the fight to ensure punishment to the police officer (sub-inspector Sukhpal Singh Panwar) and the woman lawyer who sent me to jail based on fabricated charges. I cannot be blamed alone for the incident as they were responsible for the provocation.”

The Logical Indian take

The celebratory firing just after being released on bail shows the arrogance of the BJP councillor and his supporters, least to say it is dangerous. It also reflects on the lawlessness prevailing in UP, when first a police inspector is beaten up and firing is done publicly. This only shows the utter disregard to law and order.
