Tripura CM's Wife Denies Rumours Of Domestic Violence

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has been accused by his wife Niti of domestic violence. Alleging domestic violence and harassment, a complaint has been filed by Niti in New Delhi’s Tiz Hazari Court. Deb has earlier made headlines several times for his controversial comments.

Allegations against Biplab Deb

Deb became Chief Minister of Tripura in 2018. On an earlier occasion, he had claimed that satellite communication and internet apparently existed at the time of Mahabharata. He has allegedly made communally charged statements too. He again made himself the subject of ridicule when he said that only civil engineers can sit for civil service examinations.

In fact, a complaint was lodged by the Tripura unit of the Congress with the Election Commission, demanding that Deb immediately be arrested for spreading communal hatred in the state.

A complaint was also lodged by Tapas Dey, Tripura Pradesh Congress vice-president, with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Taranikanti, alleging that Deb repeatedly makes false statement with “a motive to divide communities in the state on the lines of caste, creed and religion”. He sought Deb’s immediate arrest, reported Times Now.

“Our party has urged the CEO to register an FIR against Deb for his immediate detention to judicial custody,” another state Congress leader said.

Dey further alleged that voters were being threatened by BJP activists to not go to the polling stations. Congress workers and candidates were also being attacked, he said. He added that no action has been taken despite repeated complaints being made to the police.

When BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya was contacted, he cited an earlier slogan that was raised by AICC member and former acting president of the Tripura Pradesh Congress, Deb Burman. Allegedly, the slogan “Poila Jati, Ulo Party (caste is first and then political parties)” had communal overtones in indigenous Kokbarak language.

Wife denies rumors

However, in a recent Facebook post by Deb’s wife Niti’s, the allegations were denied, India Today reported, although it could neither verify independently the original allegation, nor whether the Facebook page really belongs to Niti. Soon after the post went online, Tripura police on April 26 arrested the person – Anupam Paul, for allegedly posting the Niti’s divorce suit on Facebook. Advocate Ashwani Jha, who is mentioned in Anupam’s post, said that the divorce suit filed by some other person and no way connected to the Assam CM,
