Bihar Topper Scam
68 inter-colleges and 19 schools across the state has been de-recognised by Anand Kishore, Chairman of Bihar School Examination Board. The step has been taken after the investigation by the Special Investigation Team which had been set up to probe into the matter of the topper scam. The news of topper scam surfaced when several top rankers couldn’t answer the basic questions of their subjects. All the affiliated colleges and inter-schools were scrutinised by BSEB.

The step has been taken to clean up the rotten education system where students would secure merit positions after bribing the officials. All the schools which were provided affiliation during the tenure of Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh, then Chairman of the BSEB under whose tenure toppers scam happened were scrutinised.

“To clean up the junk, we have cancelled affiliation of 68 inter colleges and 19 schools, and more actions can be expected in coming days” says Anand Kishore, as reported by India today.

Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh and his wife Usha Sinha were the accused in this scam and had been jailed. Many other public servants have been arrested in this scam.

What is Bihar topper scam?
Toppers scam came to light in May, this year when the toppers were found clueless about the subject they had attained merit in. The two toppers Ruby Rai and Saurabh Shrestha failed to answer the basic questions related to their subject. The board exam topper claimed that political science was about cooking and the whole matter surfaced in media within weeks. BSEB immediately took correction measures after this expose.

The Logical Indian applauds BSEB for taking such actions. Education standards have been declining since last few years, and it is noteworthy that BSEB has probed into the matter and took correction steps to clean the system.
