Patna High Court cracks the whip on BJP MP Sasaram Chhedi Paswan. The MP’s Lok Sabha membership was cancelled for concealing information in his election affidavit. Paswan has responded to the judgement by claiming he has “nothing to hide” and has vowed to challenge the verdict. The petition filed in the High Court pertains to his criminal cases. The petition claimed he has not revealed the correct number of criminal cases filed against him. Taking cognizance of the petition the court has delivered this verdict against Cheddi Paswan.

Who is Cheddi Paswan? Chhedi Paswan is a member of Lok Sabha and also a former member of Bihar Legislative Assembly. He in the past has also been a member of the Janata Dal (United) party during which he was elected to the Lok Sabha on Janata Dal ticket from Sasaram defeating the former Speaker of the Parliament Meira Kumar of the Indian National Congress.

Affidavit controversy This is not the first instance of controversy over the filing of affidavits, few days ago the Delhi State Election Commission had found that former Union Minister Kapil Sibal and the incumbent Textile Minister Ms. Smriti Irani’s 2004 election affidavits are untraceable. On the positive side, the information is still available on the website.
