Hyderabad: BHEL Woman Commits Suicide After Alleged Harassment By Deputy Director, Colleagues

A 33-year-old woman accounts officer of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), committed suicide due to alleged harassment by her colleagues and seniors on Thursday morning.

The deceased, identified as Neha hailed from Madhya Pradesh and was a residing in Miyapur, Hyderabad with her husband and in-laws. She was found hanging from the ceiling at her apartment by her husband when he broke open the door. Police have recovered a suicide note in which the deceased has stated about the alleged harassment.

In her suicide note, Neha blamed her colleagues including Deputy General of the BHEL and six other employees for mental harassment. The woman also raised suspicion on the colleagues over tapping her phone and other gadgets that she was using. The suicide note also talks about colleagues making lewd comments on her demeanour. The note further revealed that the mistreatment started when she was posted to Bhopal earlier.

“Neha has stated in the suicide note that she took extreme step after she was fed up with harassment by one of her senior official and six other colleagues”, officials said.

The body of the deceased was transferred to a local government hospital for Post Mortem Examination followed by further investigation. The police have registered a case of abetment to suicide under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 306 (Abetment of suicide) against the seven officials.
