Air India seems to be under a cloud again as a domestic passenger has complained of bed bugs. A passenger travelling from Delhi to Bangalore alleged that he was bitten by bed bugs.

This is probably the first time such an issue has been raised on their domestic flight. In July this year, several passengers flying out of New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport to Mumbai complained of being bitten by bed bugs in the aircraft. In the earlier incident, a number of business-class passengers complained about the biting critters after they found them on the seats and on the carpets as well.

What happened in the domestic flight?

“I felt itchy and was scratching throughout the flight. I thought there were mosquitoes on board. I didn’t realise that I was bitten by bed bugs till I reached home and removed my shirt,” said Ravi Kumar, who boarded the 5.40 pm Air India flight from Delhi to Bengaluru on October 17, reported The Times of India.

He said that even though he was uncomfortable he didn’t complain to the cabin crew because at that time he did not realise that he was being bitten by bed bugs. After coming back home, his daughter clicked a picture of his back and tweeted the same to the airline.

Vinika Kumar, the daughter said, “I tagged the airline in my tweet, but I haven’t received any response yet.” When The Logical Indian spoke to the Air India representative, they denied having knowledge of any such incident.

It is quite disappointing to see our state-run airline being so negligent regarding the passengers’ health and safety if the allegations are true. One can only imagine how horrific it would’ve been for the passengers to find bed bugs aboard after paying hefty amounts as flight fare.
