After Prime Minister Modi unveiled the ‘Statue Of Unity’ – the world’s largest statue which is 182 metres tall and has been built at the cost of Rs 3,000 crore, Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has started the process to build the largest statue of Hindu deity Lord Rama.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath who is on a visit to Ayodhya today, confirmed that Ram statue will be built.

“The idea is on our mind. We will discuss it further. I saw two spots today. Lord Ram will be worshipped at the temple, but a statue that can be seen from afar will also be there. We are moving ahead with the project. Surveys are being conducted and architects have suggested various designs,” UP CM said as reported by News18.

The statue is going to be 151 metres tall and will have a platform of 50 metres, taking the overall height to 201 metres.

The proposed site to build the statue is the bank of Saryu river in Ayodhya, UP.

Tenders issued for the architect and design consultant

UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam (UPRNN) had issued a tender of Rs 775 crore calling for architect and design consultant for the project “Saryu Riverfront development and construction of Shri Ram Statue at Ayodhya UP”.

Tender

“Tender for the architect and design consultant was floated and shortlisted firms gave a presentation to the chief minister. Some changes were suggested and a fresh presentation will be given after which we shall move for selection of the construction agency,” said a senior official of the UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam (UPRNN) to Hindustan Times.

Deputy Chief Minister of UP Keshav Prasad Maurya on the issue said, “Who can stop us from coming up with a grand statue of the Lord in Ayodhya? Who can stop us from developing the temple town?” he said. “What we can assure now is that nobody will be able to make anything in Ayodhya in the name of Babar,” he said, according to NDTV.

However, Mahant Satyendra Das, top priest of makeshift Ayodhya temple at the disputed site, has opposed the statue saying that Lord Ram should be in the temple and not in open.
