Ex-Army Man Beaten To Death By Unidentified Men For Opposing Robbery

On the night of July 27, a retired Army captain was beaten to death by a group of unidentified men in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district.

The cops from the Kamrauli Police Station who are probing the case said that the 64-year-old Amanullah was killed at his residence in Godiyan ka Purva village.


What happened on Saturday?

Amanullah’s wife told the cops that on Saturday, some people were trying to steal from a shop adjoining to their residence. Seeing this Amanullah warned them.

The cops said that around 2 am, the perpetrators attacked Amanullah’s residence when all were sleeping.

A police officer aware of the case said that the unidentified men barged into the house and when the family tried to alert the villagers they attacked Amanullah.

Amanullah’s son-Ibrahim in a statement to cops said that the perpetrators thrashed his father on his head which caused his death on the spot. He also said during the attack, no other family members except his parents were present at the residence.

The assailants used scrap outside the army men’s residence to kill him. After the attack, the men fled from the spot with the scraps.

Additional Superintendent of Police Dayaram told media person that Amanullah’s wife, who was unhurt said that the attackers even tried to strangle him. The body was sent for postmortem, and the investigation is underway.

Prahlad Singh, a police officer, told reporters that the cops are trying to gain the physical appearances of the assailants from Amanullah’s wife.

Ibrahim has lodged a case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 302 (murder) against the unidentified assailants.
Following the incident, general secretary of Congress of eastern Uttar Pradesh took to Twitter to criticise the Yogi Adiyanath government for failing to tackle the growing number of crimes.

The incident took place in Amethi, a bastion of the grand old party until General Election 2019 when Smriti Irani won the constituency from the former Congress President – Rahul Gandhi.
