Andhra Pradesh: Former President Of BJP City Wing Tries To Run His Car Over Traffic Cop, Arrested

A video has gone viral in which a Bhartiya Janta party leader from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh can be seen almost running over a traffic policeman after authorities threatened to tow away his car. The incident happened on the RG road, one of the busiest streets in the city.

The incident took place on August 4, Saturday, when at around 8 pm in the night the accused Laka Vengala Rao, a businessman-politician was asked to remove his vehicle.

In the video, it is seen that a few traffic policemen are standing around a white car (of the accused). The policemen are waiting for the vehicle to be towed by the towing truck, but the driver of the car moves forward almost hitting one policeman standing in front of the car.

To get the details of the case, The Logical Indian spoke to the Traffic inspector-in-charge of the case, V. Subbaraju. The inspector told us, “Vengala Rao, who is also the owner of Laka Shopping Mall had parked his car outside his shopping mall. As it was a Saturday evening and also the Chief Minister convoy was supposed to pass from that road we were instructed to check the traffic situation in the city,” said inspector Subbaraju.

The traffic cop further told us that in the process of clearing the roads, we had asked many people to park their vehicle in the parking zone. “When we asked Vengala Rao to park his car in the parking facility of his outlet he refused to do so and started an argument with the cops,” he added.

The police say that Vengala was reluctant to listen to them, so the traffic cop told him that if he does not move his car they will ask the towing machine to do so.

“As soon a the towing machine came, Vengala quickly went inside the car, and almost tried to run his car on one of our traffic cop, who was trying to stop him from running. The accused soon fled the area. We alerted the next signal to stop his car, but he did not stop on that check post as well,” said the cop.

After this, the police filed an FIR against the accused. A case under Section 236 of Indian Penal Code for Endangering Human Life and Prevention of Damage to Public Property was registered against Vengala Rao.

He was picked up by the police on the same night and was presented in front of a court the next morning. Later, he was sent to judicial remand, told the CI Traffic police, Subbaraju.

According to The News Minute, Laka Vengala Rao has been associated with the BJP for more than a decade. He was even holding the city president post in 2008. Recently, he held the post of Andhra Pradesh President of the Akhila Bharatiya Yadava Mahasabha (ABYM).
