Akhilesh Yadav Spent 4.67 Crores On Illegal Structures At Bungalow, Announces Reward For Naming People Responsible For Damages

On Sunday, Akhilesh Yadav announced a reward of Rs 11 lakh to anyone who can name the people responsible for damaging his government bungalow. This comes merely days after PWD submitted a damage assessment report and based on which, the UP government is reportedly planning to issue a notice to him.

“The way police announces cash rewards…, I would tell my friends from the media that on the said night, some people from news channels had gone there. You tell us the names of those who damaged the building, we Samajwadi people will pool in with Rs. 2,000 and give a cash reward of Rs. 11 lakh,” said Akhilesh Yadav at a programme in Lucknow

The Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) submitted a report against Ex-Chief Minister, Mr Akhilesh Yadav, to the Uttar Pradesh government, on the destruction of government property worth Rs 5.84 lakh. The government report also suggests that he allegedly spent 4.67 crores on ‘unauthorised’ constructions during his tenure as the CM of Uttar Pradesh, as reported by The Indian Express.

On 2 June 2018, Yadav emptied the house, and reports came that the vacated bungalow was left badly damaged. Reportedly, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik instructed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to order a probe against the Samajwadi Party chief for damaging government property. The Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department has, in a 200-page report, described damage to the terrace, kitchen, electrical equipment, floor tiles, lawns, paint, brickwork and bathroom fittings, as reported by Indian Express.

Reportedly, a total of Rs 5.57 crore was spent on the bungalow, however, constructions worth only about Rs 90 lakh were carried out by the PWD. The additional unauthorised constructions include extra floors in the guest house as well as security building, flooring worth Rs 13.19 lakh, pathway worth Rs 1.23 lakh, and a generator room worth Rs 22.92 lakh, among others.

Earlier, Cabinet Minister Siddharth Nath Singh told reporters that, “…One thing is clear, that he undertook some construction for which he did not take permission from the Estates Department. A law is there for this (unauthorised construction) and the law will take its course.”

Samajwadi party leader Mr Sunil Yadav said, “The BJP is increasingly getting very scared of the popularity of Akhilesh Yadav. That’s why they are doing this. Nothing will come of it. This is just a vendetta.” He discarded the allegations just as a simple vendetta against the SP chief Mr Akhilesh Yadav from the Yogi Adityanath regime.

In May 2018, a Supreme Court bench gave an order to slash down an amendment of state legislation stating that a former Chief Minister of the state can retain the residence provided by the state after leaving the office by referring that it violates Right to Equality Article (14).

Following this judgement Mr Akhilesh Yadav, Former CM of Uttar Pradesh and Head of Samajwadi Party was instructed to leave 4, Vikramaditya Marg bungalow provided by the state.
