SSC CGL 2016: 10,661 Qualified Candidates Still Jobless

The Staff Selection Commission – Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL) examination was held in June 2016 and the final merit list was released in August 2017. However, none of the 10,661 selected candidates has yet gotten a job.

What is the SSC CGL?

The national examination held annually in three tiers – preliminary, main and descriptive – is conducted to recruit staff to various central and state govt. posts in ministries, departments and organisations of the Government of India.

It is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).

Candidates wait in lost hope for jobs

About 20-25 lakh students took the tier 1 examination in June 2016; out of which, 1.5 lakh cleared and took the tier 3 exam. Out of the 35,000 candidates who cleared the mains, 10,661 were selected for various posts.

The complete merit list was declared on August 5, 2017, after months of court cases.

“All the 10,661 selected were given the respective posts like Assistant Enforcement Officer, Income tax Inspector, Examiner etc. After this, the candidates were to receive their offer letters. However, as some of the rejected candidates filed a case claiming that their papers were not properly checked, there was further delay. In all of this, the SSC was apathetic to the predicament of the students, many of whom had left their jobs for this exam,” said one of the qualifying candidates Aalok Koshal to The Logical Indian.

Some of the aspirants did not properly follow the instructions while taking the tier 3 exam (not filling roll numbers, not selecting the language the exam was given in, etc). As a result, they were all given a zero. The rejected candidates moved the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) against the result.

“On the same ground, some more cases were filed in the honourable CAT. However, by October 23 all cases were resolved,” informed Koshal.

The verdict decided that the rejected candidates either be included in the merit list or another merit list be formed for them. “It’s been 2.5 months since the verdict but the SSC has done nothing,” added Koshal who, like many others, left his job in hopes that he will be placed in three months.

Each time the candidates ask for the reason for delay, the SSC gives vague answers and says that they are ‘thinking what to do.’

Most of the 10,661 qualifying candidates do not come from affluent backgrounds. They pooled in money to hire a lawyer. Since the SSC has been unresponsive to the earlier verdict, the candidates have again filed a case in the court. The next hearing is on January 11.

Tired of the apathy and delay since last year, some of the selected candidates have also given other exams or taken up other jobs.

SSC CHSL 2015 qualified candidates also jobless

Not only are the 10,661 qualified candidates of the SSC CGL waiting in vain, but also the qualified candidates of SSC CHSL exam held in 2015 have still not gotten jobs.

Staff Selection Commission – Combined Higher Secondary Level (SSC CHSL) is a national examination for recruitment of school graduates (Class 12) in government offices.

SSC published a notification in 2015 saying that there are 3,523 vacancies for the post of postal assistant/sorting assistant, 2,049 vacancies for the post of lower divisional clerks (LDC) and 1,006 vacancies for the post of data entry operators (DEP).

Tier 1 of SSC CHSL was held in November 2015 and the final result declared almost two years later in August 2017.

The Logical Indian community stands in solidarity with the students who are deprived of their right to get jobs after months of preparation and hard work. The Staff Selection Commission has failed in its duty to hold the examination as scheduled and delay in giving jobs to those who qualified only adds to the existing harassment faced by them. It is highly unfortunate that educated youngsters of our country are forced to wait in vain when they should be working at respectable jobs.
