Girl students will be allowed to wear ‘Hijab’, ‘burkha’, ‘kara’ and ‘kirpan’ in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – UG(NEET-UG) from 2020.
Candidates wearing such clothes or carrying metallic items are required to report at their examination centres at least an hour before the gate closing time. In addition, candidates who wear anything other than the dress code provided or carry any assistive devices for medical reasons will have to take prior approval before admit cards are issued.
The National Testing Agency (NTA), the body responsible for conducting the exam, had announced the commencement of registrations for the NEET exams on its website on Monday, December 2. Along with the amendments in the dress code, NTA has also announced a number of security measures.
According to The Times Of India report, from the coming year, students are required to upload a postcard size photograph along with the existing compulsion for a passport size photo. The exam will also make use of Artificial Intelligence(AI) to flag similar looking photographs or problem cases. The candidates will also have to provide class X and XII roll numbers and certificates.
“We are using AI in locating similar looking photographs. The software will also detect blank and poor resolution or blurred photos. In problem cases, the candidates will be sent a message, and a link will be sent where they will get access to click live photo. The software will also check whether the photo is actually live,” an NTA official was quoted by the media.
NEET-UG will also be joined by All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) he Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry. The exam will also be conducted in 11 languages and the information bulletin will be available in all the 11 languages.
