Setting an example of extraordinary courage and perseverance, wife of late Rifleman Ravinder Singh Sambyal, Neeru Sambyal mastered her army training and joined Indian Army as a lieutenant.

The tragic news of her husband’s death reached her and her two-year-old daughter only two years after their marriage in 2013. Ravinder Sambyal, who was in the infantry, died in 2015 serving his country, reported Deccan Chronicle.

But nothing could make Neeru Sambyal lose heart. She did not shatter. She decided to play her late husband’s role and be a dutiful mother at the same time. Her motivation and firmness are unparalleled.

Neeru had the full support of both her maternal and paternal families during her mission to achieve her dream.

For Neeru, her daughter is her inspiration

“I never wanted her to feel the absence of her father and wished to fill for both roles, of a father and mother. That’s the motivation that helped me complete the 49 weeks of training. I got commissioned on 8th September 2018. Being in army one has to be mentally strong as there are times when one has to face situations where physical strength won’t matter much,” she said.

Neeru’s father Darshan Singh Slathia is delighted over his daughter’s accomplishment and said he is happy and proud of her hard work and achievement. He supported Neeru wholeheartedly throughout her battle and appreciates her maternal family for doing the same.

He added that it was initially difficult for the family to come to terms with Neeru’s decision to join the army. However, soon the family decided to support her wholeheartedly. Neeru’s father also mentioned the support provided by the Commanding Officer of his late son-in-law.

He added proudly that her daughter was among 26 women competing for the SSB selection exam. A father can ask for nothing more if he sees his daughter’s struggle bearing fruits.
