Nationwide Protests Erupt Over SSC Exam Mismanagement; 55,000+ Grievances Filed

Widespread exam mismanagement, cancellations, and technical failures in SSC’s Phase 13 recruitment have triggered nationwide protests and mounting demands for urgent systemic reform.

Protests against the Staff Selection Commission’s (SSC) Selection Post Phase 13 recruitment exam have intensified, entering their second consecutive day as of 2 August 2025. Students and teachers, angered by severe mismanagement—such as technical failures, abrupt cancellations, and inadequate exam centre preparedness—have assembled in cities nationwide, including Delhi, to demand urgent reforms.

Over 55,000 grievances have been formally raised, magnified by trending social media campaigns. However, SSC officials have only issued general advisories, with no comprehensive resolution or accountability forthcoming at this stage.

Mounting Frustration and Nationwide Demonstrations

The protests have reached an inflection point, with thousands of aspirants and educators congregating at prominent locations such as Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and the CGO Complex under banners like “Delhi Chalo”. Many candidates shared harrowing stories of their experiences—waiting in queues for hours, only for exams to be cancelled moments before commencing due to system failures, power cuts, or incomplete biometric verification.

Instances of candidates being allocated exam centres hundreds of kilometres from their homes, often without adequate prior notice, were widespread. Reports surfaced of students facing “unsafe” centre conditions and even being confronted by security personnel or police when voicing complaints. Videos of these events flooded social media, while hashtags like #SSCMisManagement and #SSCVendorFailure shot to national trending lists.

Educators, parents and student groups have lent their weight, with many educators detained briefly during peaceful demonstrations. The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) accused authorities of deploying unnecessary force, including the alleged use of lathis, to disperse the crowd.

Several political figures, including Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan and educators like Neetu Singh, criticised the authorities and expressed solidarity with protesting candidates.

Controversial Vendor Switch and Demands for Accountability

Central to the controversy is SSC’s decision to switch to Eduquity Career Technologies as the new exam vendor. Candidates and critics claim this firm has a history of lapses and technical failures in previous recruitment processes.

Many attribute the summer’s disruptive exam experience—including last-minute admit card distributions, malfunctioning systems, and haphazard scheduling—to poor vendor management and insufficient oversight. SSC, in its defence, has announced the rescheduling of exams in some affected centres but has not addressed the systemic root causes or provided an official explanation for choosing Eduquity.

Worries extend beyond the current phase to major upcoming corrections, such as the SSC CGL 2025 exam, which affects nearly 30 lakh aspirants. Student voices have called for urgent intervention, demanding a transparent, independent investigation into both the vendor’s selection and the exam management process. Experts point out that these disruptions undermine the exam’s credibility, cost students precious time and resources, and erode trust in the public recruitment system.

During the current SSC exam phase, major glitches such as server crashes at centres managed by Eduquity have severely disrupted exams, compelling thousands of students to travel hundreds of kilometres only to find their tests cancelled without proper communication or support

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This evolving crisis demonstrates just how much is at stake for India’s youth. The Logical Indian stands firmly beside those championing fairness, transparency, and compassion in our nation’s recruitment examinations. Public bodies must answer these well-founded concerns—not with force or platitudes, but with genuine reforms and dialogue.
