Veteran actor Nana Patekar died at the age of 75 in Goa on October 8, 2026, after reportedly suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula. According to hospital information, he was found unconscious and taken to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted continuous CPR for around 45 minutes. Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at the hospital, said Patekar could not be revived and that a medico-legal case had been registered.

A post-mortem will be conducted to establish further details. Patekar’s death marks a major loss for Hindi and Marathi cinema, where his powerful performances over several decades made him one of Indian cinema’s most recognisable actors.

A Career Built On Powerful Performances

Patekar, began his film career with Gaman in 1978 and went on to become known for his intense screen presence, distinctive dialogue delivery and ability to portray complex characters. His notable films include Parinda, Krantiveer, Prahaar, Ab Tak Chhappan, Natsamrat and Welcome. He won three National Film Awards during his career and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contribution to the arts.

A Sudden Loss

According to reports, Patekar was found unconscious at his Goa residence in the early hours of Thursday and was subsequently taken to Manipal Hospital. Dr Salkar said doctors attempted continuous CPR for approximately 45 minutes but could not revive him. He was declared dead at around 5:20 am, according to hospital information. The doctor also confirmed that a medico-legal case had been registered and that a post-mortem would be conducted. Further details surrounding his death are awaited.

Industry Mourns As Tributes Pour In

Tributes began pouring in following Nana Patekar’s death, with actor Riteish Deshmukh expressing shock over the sudden loss and recalling his unfulfilled wish to work with the veteran actor. Deshmukh reportedly said that the loss felt like being hit by a truck and expressed regret that he would never get the opportunity to share the screen with Patekar.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had previously praised Patekar in August for his work supporting farmers, describing him as a sensitive human being who helped quietly without publicity. His remarks, however, were made before Patekar’s death and were not a condolence message.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

Nana Patekar’s passing is not only the loss of a celebrated actor but also the end of a remarkable chapter in Indian cinema. His performances gave audiences characters that reflected anger, vulnerability, courage and the many complexities of human life.

As tributes emerge, it is important to remember his contribution with dignity while allowing verified information about his death to emerge responsibly. In moments of grief, empathy for the family and respect for privacy matter as much as remembrance.
