My Story: We Both Felt That We Are Not Perfect For Each Other But Realised That Opposites Do Attract

“The biggest myth about arranged marriage is that there is no love, no romantic dinner dates, it is archaic and most important, no drama with your parents and last but not the least arranged marriages are all boring. Even for me arranged marriage was so not my thing!

But as fate would have it, my father asked me to talk to Pradip whom he saw on one matrimonial site, and as usual, I was reluctant to speak with him. But after persistent persuasion from Papa I gave up and one fine day we talked to each other. And that day all I was talking about was the tattoo I intended to get inked and all the rubbish things with the intention to get rejected. And hooray! It so happened that we both felt we are not perfect for each other as I am quite garrulous, outspoken, and he is just the opposite. I was happy but yes we did say we would be in touch.

And the following Sunday turned out to be the turning point of our life as we talked to each other on WhatsApp whole day and after few more calls, we realised that opposites do attract, and we are perfect for each other, though I was still skeptical about the arranged marriage concept.

But, after ten months on 6 December 2015, we got engaged, and that was when we met each other for the 2nd time.  I noticed how much he cares about me and how he is also vivacious, but soft spoken, shy, mature, and full of humour. That day we not only exchanged rings, but we also exchanged our dreams, expectations and promises.

We got married three months after the engagement, and I remember during vidaai, I was crying.  All I kept saying was, “wahan pe sab dantenge mai jab galti karungi” (everyone will scold me if I make a mistake). But I was so wrong about arranged marriage.

My in-laws turned out to be the loveliest people I have ever met. They love me, support me and never scold me even if I am wrong. Instead, they allow me to make mistakes so that I can learn from them. Even Pradip understands me every single time whenever I go through an emotional crisis. He supports me in every single thing. Every time I fight with him, he listens patiently and always says one thing “please don’t waste our beautiful present because of this stupid fights, once these moments are gone we won’t get to relive them again”. And yes I can say I found my prince charming in the most uncharming way and sometimes you can rely on your parent’s instinct.

We are blissfully completing one year of our engagement on this 6th Dec and I just love him more and more with each passing day.”
