My Story: Unholy Collusion B/W Builders And Administration Killed My Uncle

Supported by

The following incident is a result of illegal construction and failed administration.
On the 1st of Feb, Dr Sameer Kumar Ganguly aka Chand Da  was going to pick up his niece from school at 11:00 am, however, little did he know what he was about to face. On his way out of the narrow passage (galli) at Mishir Pokhra, Varanasi, around 6-8 bricks fell on his head from the 4th floor of a building under illegal construction. It was not more than 6 feet away from our house in the same galli. The workers were breaking the walls of the 4th floor. While breaking the wall, no safety rules were followed. Unfortunately, it was my uncle who passed by and the bricks which fell down from 4th floor hit him and his eyes popped out and blood started oozing out of his eyes and mouth besides his skull had got severely fractured. He was taken to the operation room and though the clots where removed, his vitals were not stabilising and he lost his life on the 2nd of Feb around 5:30 pm.

Our Sincere plea
Our question here is how can the Varanasi Development Authority be so blind to allow a construction of a 5 story building in a galli which is only about 6 feet. Moreover, Mishir Pokhra has been declared as a heritage site by the government. So, how was it that this construction went unnoticed for 1.5yrs. This incident took place as a result of this laid back attitude.

No arrests have been made neither no actions have been taken. My family has broken down, a vacuum has been created which can never be filled. His wife now lives only with a question ‘why god why did u take away my husband?’

Our only plea is to stop such illegal construction which could lead to loss of other lives precious lives if not injured and action to be taken against all those who have involved in allowing illegal construction of building besides flaunting every safety rule in the book. We do not want any other family to loose their loved ones. Please help us in getting justice.

The Logical Indian would like to convey its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. No words could console a loss of life. We hope the administration now at least take matters into their own hands and clamp down on illegal construction sites besides enforcing safety rules in legitimate construction site’s.
