My Story: “My Cab Driver, A Former CCD Employee, Told How He Owes It To Founder Siddhartha & His Company”

Café Coffee Day’s founder VG Siddhartha’s body was recovered from Nethravathi river in Mangaluru, Karnataka. In the letter, purportedly written by Siddhartha before going missing, he has blamed pressure from one of the private equity owners and the Income Tax Department for taking the extreme. While the authenticity of the letter is under question, his suicide has sent shockwaves across the state.

CCD has been touted as one of the leading and trendsetting coffee chains. The chain employees about 5000 people.

One of the former employee of CCD, who worked there as a waiter spoke to Bengaluru resident Puneeth about how his stint at CCD and how it affected his life.

The cab driver today I met started discussing the missing of Café Coffee Day’s founder VS Siddhartha. He was sad and told me that he left for work a little early today because he couldn’t sit and watch the media coverage on the big news. I asked him why and he started sharing a brief story of him working at one of the CCD outlets. He was feeling sad only because he feels he owes a lot to Siddhartha and his company. He shared with me on how he learnt to speak in English only after working there and how he could better his economical condition to an extent and take that experience to move forward in life.

I was only thinking about how easily in a hurry to take credit for our own abilities and talents, many times we forget the enablement the organisations and people we work for do to our lives. The way entrepreneurs and organisations’ leaders touch upon so many people’s lives is a story much beyond the businesses and the money they run for. It’s more of one human enabling the other and a looping reverse.

With all this, Siddhartha’s ‘found’ letter is extremely depressing and sad if that is to be the real reason for his missing case. If this is true, then it’s scary and a strong warning to a whole lot of our wannabe “entrepreneurial” generation to make right moves!
