More than one-third of women in India between the age of 15-49 have faced domestic abuse in their lives. About 1 in 10 have experienced sexual violence. Almost 37% of married women have faced domestic abuse at the hands of their husband.

” See, he is your husband.. these things happen..I mean I can’t…talk to him.. tell him not to get angry with you.. did you do anything wrong.. don’t fight with him.. you need to understand.. he has accepted you with your condition.. we should be grateful…I am helpless…” the same dialogue for the hundredth time.

How many years was she to tolerate this? Believe that this was her life? Believe that she was inferior. Believe that he had done a favour by marrying her. She would not. Not anymore.
She would carve her own fate. Escape.
P.S. 1 in 3 women experience some form of domestic violence in their lifetime. people with disability experience far more domestic violence than able-bodied.
" He has locked my wheelchair in the cupboard Amma..I don't know what to do.. i am stuck the whole day.. can't…
