While walking down the streets of Dadar, heading to my studio this is what I saw. An extremely old aged lady begging on the streets near Dadar Railway Station.
I felt really bad about this so I rushed to a nearby food stall to get her some quick Snacks coz I thought she would be really hungry.
I brought food and gave it to her but the street hawkers standing by stopped me from doing so. I questioned them and they replied that since morning people are giving her food but she is unable to eat and she is throwing it away. Further I learned that this lady had been left on the streets by someone since yesterday evening. She was unable to understand, unable to speak much and mostly she was trying to talk to herself. All she did was trying to beg and look for shelter.
Further I learned that the nearby street hawkers helped her with clothes and some tea biscuit as this was the only thing she could eat.
The hawkers also called the POLICE for help but the MUMBAI POLICE denied helping her stating that they can only help a senior citizen in the event of a crime. Then the hawker seeked help from MUMBAI MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, the municipal corporation too denied taking any responsibility of this old lady.
I also learnt by the street hawkers that someone stole her bag last night in which she kept all the money which was offered to her.
I was really heartbroken and sad about all I learnt about her. I felt really helpless. All I thought was that she could be a mother, a sister, a daughter or a wife of someone but today she is helpless with no one around to take care of her. Hence I decided to take a picture of her and post it on FB so that this information can be reached to the right people or organisation that can help her in the right way.
Together we can and we will make a difference and make this world a better place for mankind.
