“I came from Karachi to graduate from Kinnaird College, Lahore and luckily I got my name on the merit list too. But then I made a huge mistake. I fell in love with the wrong person. Sometimes, you do too much for people who deserve nothing and in the end they prove that you indeed made a mistake. Apparently, he loved me as long as I was fulfilling his demands.

I started feeling like I was nothing except someone to support him financially. I finally realized I should back off even though it was really hard for me. So I broke up with him. Sometime later while I was arriving from airport to my college, he, along with some of his friends, threw acid on my face. I couldn’t believe how easily he decided to ruin my life. I had to quit my studies after getting my treatment. My mother couldn’t bear what happened to me and passed away. I wanted to die. It was the worst possible thing that could happen to me.

I stopped feeling beautiful. I stopped hoping. Then came a wonderful opportunity in the shape of ‘Depilex’. After so long, I felt beautiful from within when I was able to help the other victims working here at Depilex. I stopped judging people by their looks and started looking between the lines and learnt that beauty is not always big eyes, skinny legs or fair complexion. Sometimes, its just a word of kindness. A warm hug or a friendly smile.

I don’t have any regrets from life because I know God is watching. He will make sure I get justice. Life is an echo. You get what you give. What you give will come back to you. Maybe not today, but eventually.”
