Amethi: Schools Are Using Walls And Ceilings In An Innovative Way To Teach Kids

Schools buildings are exclusively meant for the education of children. But in most cases, education is mainly restricted to books and whatever the teachers teach. Have you ever imagined what would happen if an entire school is designed in such a way that every corner of it imparts some learning?

Well, such an initiative has been taken by DEHAT, an NGO who has painted different learning objects on the walls, ceilings, corridors of school buildings. The concept “Aanandha” is all about making the building components an active facilitator in the whole process of teaching-learning (which is the primary function of the school) for children and teachers. The way education is perceived is being changed in the eight government primary and upper primary schools in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district.

At a school, the ceiling explains the planetary movement and how the moon acts as the satellite of our planet. The walls impart knowledge on mathematics, whereas, the floors teach students different parts of an angle.

The students in these schools have received their books quite late, but their tryst with education and learning never stopped because of these creatives they have in their schools.

The initiative has covered 1,035 students in eight schools including primary, upper primary and residential schools.


How does it work?
‘Aanandha’ is a Sanskrit word which means Unending Joy. Believing that Government Schools are the only alternate for poorer and deprived children, DEHAT has initiated this project to let the children:

  • Understand the physical world around them.
  • Comprehend the passage of time in their Daily Life.
  • Grasp Tech-Ticks to deal with numbers.
  • Get different ways of interacting with language.
  • Involve with Doing and Learning Acts.
  • Enabled with Fun & Learning concepts.
  • Making the nature of Government school’s components as inviting for children instrument.
