Heavy rain and adverse weather conditions in Mumbai on Tuesday, August 11, may disrupt flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, with SpiceJet warning passengers that arrivals, departures and subsequent connecting flights could be affected. The airline has advised travellers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport and allow extra time for their journey, as waterlogging and slow-moving traffic on roads could delay access to the terminal.
The advisory comes as Mumbai experiences another spell of monsoon rainfall, creating challenges for both air and road travel. While SpiceJet has warned of possible delays, it has not announced a blanket cancellation of flights. Passengers have therefore been urged to rely on real-time updates from the airline before beginning their journey.
SpiceJet Warns Of Delays
SpiceJet issued its advisory after heavy rainfall and unfavourable weather conditions raised the possibility of disruptions at Mumbai airport. The airline said that “all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected”, meaning delays to one service could have a knock-on effect on aircraft rotations and subsequent flights. It asked passengers to keep checking their flight status for the latest information.
For travellers, the disruption may begin even before reaching the airport: waterlogged roads, congestion and slow-moving traffic can significantly increase travel time, making an early departure from home particularly important.
The situation also highlights how closely Mumbai’s air connectivity is tied to conditions on the ground. Rather, it signals that weather-related disruption remains possible and that schedules can change at short notice. For passengers with connecting flights, the situation can be particularly difficult because a delay on the first leg may affect the rest of their journey. Checking the latest status directly with the airline before setting out is therefore crucial.
